Apey Kade

Apey Kade means “My Shop” in Sri Lankan dialect. Although the place was small, the food was excellent, fresh and fulfilling to the hearts content. The coffee itself is a must try and so are the snacks and the main course. The rice pack wrapped in banana leaf is a must try.

The owner was very patient and took time to explain to us the various menu items and how the items got their name. If you plan to visit, please keep in mind that the food is spicy and if your palette is not used to it, then you should ask the owner for alternatives. I for sure will definitely be going back to try the other items in their menu.

Apey Kade Restaurant menu

This is a small restaurant with limited seatings. The owner is very friendly and helpful. We visited this place pre Covid and food was great that time. But the experience was not same this time. Food was average and spicy. We tried Kori roti, string hoppers and puffs.

I recently dined at Apey Kade restaurant, and the experience was nothing short of delightful. From the warm ambiance to the rich aromas, every aspect captivated my senses. The menu offered a diverse array of authentic Sri Lankan dishes, each bursting with bold flavors and expertly prepared. The staff’s hospitality added an extra layer of warmth to the overall experience. A hidden gem worth savoring!

I had been wanting to try this place for a long time, and I’m so happy I finally got to. I’d never had Sri Lankan food, and it was different from anything I’ve ever had before. The flavors are indescribable, and incredible. Everything tasted fresh.

My expectations were high, and they were still exceeded by a marathon. I don’t have the words to describe how stunning the food was. I had the vegetable hopper. It was a plate of noodles and a spicy vegetable salad (? I’m not sure what it would be called but it was good), with three side dishes to put on the noodles- a coconut soup, a green-bean vegetable dish, and a squash curry.

I went with my dad, and he ordered the same as I did, but his came with a dahl- like food instead of squash. I think it’s really cool how you can order the same thing and still get some variation, while also being able to have confidence that everything is delicious- my dad and I shared our side dishes, so I can confirm that the dahl was amazing. The people running the restaurant were helpful and kind, and the inside of the restaurant while small was impeccably clean.

The food was quite spicy, which I loved, but if you don’t like spicy food you might not like it as much. The spice is different from other spicy foods that I’ve had, though, so if there’s just a particular brand of spice that you dislike, you should still give this a try. Also, it’s a vegetarian-friendly place, which is always lovely to find.

finally

This restaurant is a gem. Travelled from far to eat hoppers. We ordered hopper meals with chicken, kottu roti with chicken, milk tea, faluda. All of the dishes were so tasty and delicious. I had more hoppers for takeout too, can’t get enough eating them. Family business with dad, mom and daughter. Highly recommended.
