Berlin Restaurant Washington DC

Berlin Restaurant in Washington DC This is by far one of the cutest places in DC for a quick bite and coffee! The staff was amazing and seemed very familiar with their customers. The owner was there when I dropped by she was so nice and patient with my order.

As a German (born and raised for 18 years), now living in the US., I often have the desire to eat German food. I was really looking forward to eating at Cafe Berlin. Did it taste like authentic German food? No. But it sure felt reminiscent sitting outside, in a sort of Biergarten environment, with a half a liter of beer, Spaetzle,

Kartoffelpuffer (Potato pancakes), and Gurkensalat. I was hoping they offered Radler, or Alster (depending on what part of Germany you’re visiting), it is essentially a pilsner with sprite. Since they only offer regular beer, I also ordered a Sprite and just poured it in my beer and voila! A Radler! May be something to add to their menu (hint). 😋 The Gurkensalat (cucumber salad) was really good. It brought back memories of all the Gurkensalat I ate as a kid at my grandma’s house
on Sundays. The Kartofelpuffer with apple sauce (yes!!) and sour cream (what??

That is not a German thing!) was pretty good. It did not taste like the German version, but it was still tasty. The Kaesespaetzle were really good and pretty close to true Spaetzle! My sister-in-law had Melonensalat and to be honest I had no idea that was even a German thing, but she liked it. Overall, I enjoyed my meal and drink, and would recommend this to anyone who would like to try some good German cuisine.
