Royal Nepal Restaurant Washington DC Royal Nepal is my all time favorite Nepali restaurant in the DMV area. I have talked about their momos (dumplings) and some amazing appetizers like marinated boar, dry meat and tandoori chicken already on my Yelp review.

We decided to give Virginia a try. We found Royal Nepal at the Himalaya Mountain Range. What a blessing. The outside is deceiving but upon entering this restaurant, you feel that “yes”, cleanliness is next to Godliness. There is also an atmosphere of serenity. Let’s talk about the food. Being unfamiliar with Nepalese cuisine, we were lost in their menu. Luckily, the waitperson could tell that we needed guidance and he became our food Sherpa. For appetizers, .

we decided to venture into the unknown and try their yak momocha dumplings and poleko badel (BBQ style tandoori roasted Wild Boar). Never having eaten yak before, the dumplings were incredible. Being a rare commodity, I have not eaten wild boar in 30 years. Upon my first bite, I was reminded of what I have been missing. For entrees, we ordered the badel ko masu (boneless wild boar curry) and the chicken sizzler (Nepali lomein). To compliment our meal we had black lentil and plain naan. The spices were so well balanced in each dish that they enhanced the food instead of over powering them. When dining at the Royal Nepal, you feel like royalty

never liked eggplants in my life, but thank you Royal Nepal for bringing this dish in a sweet-savory pattern which made me fall in LOVE with it. Lamb shank was probably the juiciest one that I ever had in my life. The meat fell right off the bones and it paired up perfectly with the edamame puree. We also tried their award winning lamb chops which was one of the best dishes we had that day. Sel-roti(fried rice flour bread), achar(radish pickle with mustard, vinegar, and spices),
