I agree with others that price can be lower ($3-4 each instead of $6, though you can get it 2 for $5) However, empanadas were really good. I tried cheese spinach and beef. The sauce to go with it were good. And I like the fact that empanadas were baked and not fried. You can only have a few before you feel too much with fried ones (too heavy) but because they were baked, you can have more without feeling disgusted. My husband who’s picky loved it too! Fillings are good and so is the dough! Not too thick or too thin. Just the perfect layer and tastes really good.

Small latino tables close with families enjoying food and warmth. Two flat screen TVs. Lots of children quite and under contol some charming smiles. Pictures of food as well as a big menu. Ordered a tilapia came with a salad. My friend took a chicken A milk cake shared and i got a maracjar to go. Cheap and good. There are dos hermanous and a pho at the end of the street parking and intereting flowers hidden in corners

Atmosphere is beautiful. I was so excited to try this place. The old fashioned was very good. Sushi was mediocre but over priced and the lava desert… tasted like a microwaved cake. My waiter was professional but very slow, he disappeared for long stretches of time and the food itself also took quite some time to come to the table.

great food! however, my advise check and recheck the itemized receipt before paying your bill or you will be sad when you find out they overcharge you and have to call them multiple times to get your money back. not the best experience. They charge us $50 (plus tax and tip) on some donuts we did not order. Called the manager last Sunday and because of the holidays finally got my money back the following Tuesday. like i said, great food just check your receipt 🙂

The chicken and plantains are on point, flavorful and juicy, took me right back to Astoria, Queens. The fried rice portion, that accompanied the whole chicken meal, is a little small for with a family of four, but everything was prepared to perfection. Definitely a hidden gem!

Great place to eat in DC. There is lots of unique dishes that were very good. I particularly enjoyed the Lam Lam and the Pollo Dim Sum. A good thing to remember is the portions are somewhat small so remember to order 2 or so per person. Also, 2 of our dishes were lukewarm. While they were good, it would’ve been better to have been hot. Overall it’s a great place to go to and I’d recommend it.

El Chalan Restaurant Washington DC Surprisingly nice place below street level. Doesn’t look like much from the outside, but cozy and well decorated inside. Helpful staff that was accommodating to split our check. We enjoyed a good ceviche mixto. I had the cabrito nortena. The flavors were spot on but the meat was dry. Next time I’ll explore other dishes.

So glad to have found El Chalan while here in DC on vacation. My family and I lived in Piura, Peru for almost 9 years which is in the heart of Peruvian creole food. We LOVE Peruvian food and this is as authentic as you can get. I even told my wife that the sala made me feel like we were transported back to Peru. We ate here twice. The ceviche, papa a la huancaina , cabrito norteño, arroz con mariscos, chupe de camarones, anticuchos and lomo saltado we’re excellence!!! I would absolutely recommend El Chalan!!!
