Umi Japanese Cuisine Washington DC

Umi Japanese Cuisine Washington DC Easily one of my favorite sushi/Japanese restaurants in DC. Near the National Zoo by the Woodley metro this is a true neighborhood gem with great quality with fresh ingredients and they do not hold back on the meat, plus friendly staff.

I’ve been ordering pickup from here for years. The masterful chef makes each order look like a masterpiece painting!
stopped in here during a flash flood tornado warning evening… got the spicy girl roll and it rocked my world. salmon, white tuna, spicy tuna, avocado, tempura flakes, and soy paper were formed into little pockets of deliciousness. has to be tried to be described. will be back whenever i am passing thru DC!! also side salad with ginger was solid just like i like em. wonderful friendly staff. support em!!!!

I like the location, close to the Marriott hotel and Metro Station. The sushi was delicious and the service was friendly. The dining area is small, so this place is good for smaller groups and individuals.
Phenomenal meal tonight and the Tempura Fried Green Tea ice cream was out of this world!!! Best Japanese food I’ve had in years!

Walking around trying to find a reasonably priced meal in this area I stumbled upon Umi’s. Up the stairs and into a quiet little dark sushi joint I went. I got there early before the lunch rush came in I suspect, just minutes after opening. The tables hadn’t been set yet. That was how early. I ordered a Miso soup and a Fantastic roll. The soup wasn’t ready so they asked if I would like my roll first. That was nice and I opted to do that. It was excellent. The special wrap and the plating made it visually so eye appealing that I felt bad eating it – to a point. Delicious. The miso was about on par with any other place and to do it again, I might opt for another starter instead.
