SUGARFISH by sushi nozawa

Had a great visit to Sugarfish on a rainy afternoon. Getting a table was super quick and service by Maple was incredibly friendly as we were explained the process and items on the menu. We went with the Nozawa Bar Premium Sake and the Don’t Think. Just Eat. Trust Me. After having the normal Trust Me lunch before, I have to say the sushi is included in the larger lunch isn’t much of a deal. I’d recommend the Trust Me and ordering additional pieces a la carte.

The larger lunch definitely gives you exposure to different pieces but the real noticeable one would be the Lobster hand roll and Pink lobster nigiri. Pictured is the salmon sashimi, chutoro, salmon, albacore nigiri, toro hand roll, chutoro, pink lobster, sea bream and unagi nigiri. All were fantastic with shoutouts to the salmon and the toro. Would definitely come again and order more a la carte.

We came for lunch and did not expect this place to be this good. Usually, good sushi restaurants are pricey, but this one offers very affordable prices with really good quality food. The rice on the nigiri was warm, just as it should be. The service was great, and the ambiance was also pretty wonderful. I would definitely come back.

For the price and the overall dining experience, sugarfish is really hard to beat. The food and service have also been consistently good. Definitely my must visit spot if I’m in New York and craving for sushi.

For the portion, if you are an average person, Trust Me will fill you but not overstuffed which I think it’s the perfect amount.

The price for the pieces of fish we got was definitely reasonable. If you are looking for amazing sushi, I would recommend paying a bit more as the food was a little bit underwhelming. The rice was overpowering the fish and the hand rolls you can’t taste the fish in my opinion. Also the in person experience is a little slow.

WARM RICE!!! I did not know this is what I needed in my sushi experience but it most certainly is what everyone needs! The food, the vibes and the overall experience at Sugarfish is phenomenal. I can’t get over how fresh and buttery each piece of sushi was at this establishment. They have a prefixed menu which I one hundo p recommend, we went with the Nozawa Trust Me. The fish melts in your mouth and I’ll say it again the warm rice just puts it over the top.

They are very particular about which pieces you should add sauce and which ones you shouldn’t but I personally enjoyed the curated dining experience. I will recommend this place to everyone I know and lament the time I have to wait until I can come back! My only regret is that I wish someone would have prepared me to know that once you go to warm rice you can’t go back!

Went here with a friend after I had them in California. The food was amazing as always. My friend thought that the food was life changing which I said the same thing first time I ate here. That being said the experience felt a lot less intimate and personal so I would recommend sitting at the bar.

Good for the price: $37 lunch set at a no-tipping establishment. This format allows the rice to arrive slightly warm for each piece. The consistency of the rice does leave something to be desired, though: wet and sticky, as if the rice wasn’t washed enough. This might be needed to form the sushi quickly without having it falling apart. The restaurant was packed and the kitchen had to move quickly.
