The Yearling Restaurant

I grew up in the area. So many times over the decades, I was curious about this place as we drove by one of their billboards or heard the locals talk about it, but I had never been before.  Tonight, I went to The Yearling restaurant for the first time. What a great experience!

I had fried grouper with cole slaw & cheese grits; my sister and my niece both had the Cross Creek special with Gator tail, frog legs, and catfish. Sides of cheese grits, okra & tomatoes, and collard greens. I had a piece of peanut butter pie for dessert, and my sister got the Key lime pie.

All of it was delicious! Plus, we had an appetizer of Gator tail & conch fritters. Seasoned perfectly and served hot & fresh. They even had live entertainment!
We enjoyed our dining experience completely and plan on adding The Yearling to our list of local favorites!

This Restaurant is a bit out of the way, but well worth the trip. Don’t let the outside discouraged you, very large and nostalgic inside. Awesome decor and the food is incredible from Game to Seafood, Loved it. Also a full bar for drinks. There are a few more items on the menu I still want to try.

This was an awesome place. I’ve been wanting to come here for years. I’m so glad I was finally able to. I saw the movie when I was a kid, so going to the restaurant brought back a lot of memories. The food was really good and fun to eat. I got the gator, catfish, and frog legs, and my wife got the grouper sandwich. If you like country themed restaurants, this place is for you.

The restaurant is located in the heart of Fl History and is worth seeing the artifacts inside by itself but you definitely want to stay and eat the wonderful food! Our server was super kind and welcoming. The fish dip for starters is perfectly seasoned and portioned.

The shrimp fried to perfection and the catfish blackened perfectly and not to much spice or heat. Laid on a plate of cheese grits that were creamy and delicious.

The tea is delicious and plentiful. No room for a desert so I guess I’ll have to go back and try one later. Oh darn. Lol. I highly recommend you try this wonderful piece of Florida history.

The food was delicious. I had the venison. The meat was very tender. My husband had the sampler platter with frog legs, gator bite, catfish and added red fish with 2 sides. If you’re in the area do stop by.

Great service and food every visit. Have been here for both lunch and dinner. The menu is diverse, from cheeseburgers to venison, and red fish to gator or frog. The atmosphere is very unique and definitely huge part of why we make the trip. We have bibliophile in the family and bringing her here is always a treat, younger children enjoy seeing all the animals taxidermy on display too.
