Via Carota Restaurant New York

First time to Via Carota as it’s hard to get a reservation at, but well worth it. Kicked off our lunch with a nice dry Franciacorta, fried olives, bread and a salad. Everything is very simple, which I love, just like being in Italy. Split the branzino as our entree with a a side of grilled artichokes. Finished the meal with the zabaglione. Will have to come back to try the pastas, if I can get another reservation.

Via Carota is a standout in the West Village, offering an inviting atmosphere that perfectly suits any occasion, whether it’s a sunny breakfast, a leisurely lunch, a family dinner, or a late-night drink. This restaurant captures the essence of an Italian gastroteca, serving a range of delicious dishes throughout the day.Founded by celebrated chefs Jody Williams and Rita Sodi, Via Carota is inspired by the 17th-century villa near Florence that Sodi once called home. The restaurant exudes old-world charm, reflected in both its menu and décor. Every detail, from the communal dining tables to the carefully curated menu, honors traditional Italian roots.

This restaurant is a bit overrated. While I think it’s good, I don’t think it’s worth a wait online and all the hype. The insalata verde is worth the trip. It’s delicious, it’s fresh and it’s huge. It can easily feed 4-5 people as an app. Then we had the grilled mushrooms which were overall way too greasy for me. The pastas (tagliatelle with prosciutto and Cacio e Peppe) were both amazing home made pastas but maybe a bit too heavy on the sauces for me. Nice flavoring in the food but wouldn’t rave about it.

My wife and I absolutely loved our lunch here. We walked in around noon, no wait, sat at the end of the bar which we prefer. The food was exceptional – simple dishes with a ton of depth to the flavors – and what really impressed me was the fact that I had been here 2 years ago for a work dinner and the dishes were all so consistent. We ended up ordering a second round of cannolis to take with us they are just incredible!

Got there at 3pm on Sunday and got seated inside immediately. The atmosphere is really chill and warm, and the food is just next level. We had the insalata verde and grilled octopus to start, never have I had a more juicer octopus before. The papadelle is right on the spot for my pasta craving. Would definitely go revisit!

Popular/lively spot. On a Friday night, we got on the list and grabbed a drink nearby while waiting ~45 minutes for two seats at the bar. Service, wine, appetizers, and mains were all great!

fantastic cozy italian spot. locals and tourists fill this place up. wait list is so long but go for a solo date night and you’ll wait 20-45 mins for a spot at the bar or single table. incredibly simple dishes packed with flavour. the mushrooms with scamorza was absolutely fantastic. the tagliatelle with peas and prosciutto sounds simple yet was so packed with flavour. portions are huge so you’ll be taking some home with you the next day. dessert is fantastic. tiramisu and cannolis are a must.

finally

The food was even better than we expected! It was such a nice, rustic atmosphere and felt as though we weren’t in NYC. It’s very challenging to get a reservation, but they accept walk-ins if you come during less busy hours
