The Montsweag Restaurant Maine impressive new chef and menu, excellent food and creative offerings. Main dining room is a little noisy but otherwise nice lighting. And terrific wait staff, Jewel was attentive and friendly. Will definitely return!

Real experience

Our dining experience was amazing here (again)! Mussels, fish and chips (and omg those homemade style fries were to die for!), chowder, chicken tenders, tequila sunrise, local draft beer – a perfect way to enjoy the best Maine has to offer.
I didn’t realize they now have outside seating available as well – we’ll definitely try it next time!
The staff was friendly, accommodating and quick. This is definitely one of our favorite local spots!

What a great little place! The atmosphere- SO laid back! The white raw beamed ceilings and eclectic rustic decor really did great for the ambience. I wish the lighting was SLIGHTLY better but too much you’d lose the whole vibe. We had the onion crisp board as an app- DEFINITELY fills you up and is more than enough for two! For our entrees we had braised pork shank with Yukon yellow potatoes and beer battered fish and chips.

The braised pork and potatoes were kind of flavorless I guess for me, but my fiancee (doesn’t eat as much spices/salt) could taste more flavor than I, I will say the pork was cooked to perfection and fell off the bone though. The fish was cooked absolutelyAMAZING, a lot of places I’ve been to over cook it and its just awful. It tasted super fresh and the batter was nice and crispy.

We had creme brulee for desert which was also quite good, the custard was nice and smooth- no grit, which is quite the feat if you’ve never made custard from scratch! Will absolutely be visiting again! Also our hostess and waitress were so nice! The waitress was attentive and service was quick. Our waitress also informed us that the owner brings in fresh fish off his boat! How neat is that!

Nice place. Good food. It was very busy on a Tuesday night so I knew the food would be good. The hostess said they were a little short staffed but they would be with us shortly. We had a nice meal. The burger was very very good. Cooked perfectly and very tasty. The pulled pork Mac and cheese was very hot. Smokey flavor and cheesy. The service however was extremely slow. Our server was not efficient at all. We waited for 30 minutes to get our check and then 15 more before she came back to get it. This is hopefully just after effects of COVID-19. We will come back.

Seems like an interesting place from the outside, and once you enter it’s very loud with people talking and people walking around serving food. When we arrived, they had to clean our table, as it was a busy Saturday night. The wait wasn’t long at all, and we went upstairs. It is a very different atmosphere once you arrive on the second floor, it feels like rustic chic with several light fixtures and varied paintings. We all ordered, our drinks came probably ten minutes later.

Then we ordered our food and I kid you not, it took an hour and a half for our food to come. I was starving by the time it arrived. It was decent, but I was feeling slightly resentful by that time. The server tried her best and should not be blamed for this, as it was the kitchen’s fault.

When she told us our food was coming it arrived approximately twenty minutes later. So overall, terrible timing with the food, but they are probably understaffed and none of this should come down as a punishment for any employees. The food however was pretty good, so come check it out on a weekday.

We had a delicious dinner here. The service was very good and the atmosphere was great! Would definitely come back in the future. I would certainly recommend reservations though as it did get a little crowded around 6.
