Awesome dogs! Wish they had fries but chips are fine. Didn’t think to take a photo until I was half done with my dog.
Fresh good food. Had chili and cheese with tamale. Was delicious brought back years gone by memories..My friend had a beef hotdog with all the trimmings on a poppyseed bun. He said it was one of the best he ever had..

Hot dogs, cheese dogs, and polish was good. I kinda felt my dog was a bit dried out on the ends though hard to tell with all the cheese. Bring cash that’s all they take. He’s building a little shelter from the rain over the order window, should help on cold and rainy days. Hours when I went was Monday – Saturday 11-5pm & Sunday 11-4pm
I first found out about Fat Johnnie’s from Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations. It’s a shack on the side of the road that serves the best hot dogs you’ve ever had in your life. You won’t regret making the trip. It’s phenomenal as are the people running it. The tamale’s are great too.

One of the best places on the Southside to get hot dogs haven’t found a hot dog place that makes better hot dogs then fat Johnny’s condiments are always fresh and cold hot dogs are delicious buns are always steam to perfection As a continuation with eats from “Made in Chicago: Stories Behind 30 Great Hometown Bites”, my next stop was Fat Johnnies but NOT for The Mother In Law (as stated in the book) but rather the Mighty Dog. This is essentially the MIL but add a hotdog and cheese (to the tamale & chili on a bun dragged through the garden). This will be a preference to corn rolled tamales.Personally, the tamale gave it a gritter and drier taste in my mouth which is a carb redundacy with the bun. However, the red hot had snap and was super tasty and salty. Overall, I would prefer the standard Chicago dog (sans the cucumber). Nonetheless, the quality of food is high while prices are suprisingly low. This small shack is only take-out and CASH ONLY. I believe the owner works the line and was very friendly. I will try their regular dog another day.

Best cheap seats. Polish, chili dogs, and mighty dog is most excellentOne of the best lunches I’ve eaten in recent memory. We had an Italian sausage sandwich, a Bangkok sandwich and chili cheese tater tots. Enough to satisfy two very hungry guys. The Hawaiian bread hot dog buns are to die for, the portions are generous, and the shady beer garden is very comfortable. Great chili, crispy tots, delicious sausage that is amply cheesed. I enjoyed this more than the very good Wurst beer garden in the Arts District.

My 5yr old bit a super dog (chili with cheese) and said “mmmm I love it” he closer his eyes as well. Can’t find a better dog in Chicago
It was excellent. Great polish & good chili. It was great to have a tamale on a bun. It’s been a while since I have. Most likely I will go back there again & again. I recommend that you do too.
