Cahawba House Restaurant

I want to start with saying that I was extremely close to giving this restaurant 5-stars. I wanted a home cooked breakfast while traveling in Montgomery for a conference. I love the small mom and pop restaurants so Cahawaba House is where I landed.

The staff was all very warm and gave me a very welcoming vibe. They have an outdoor seating option with a lovely, relaxing viewpoint of the city. The interior is especially clean. It was easy for me to eat comfortably. I watched them play and interact with a young boy as if they were their own.

The food was good. The menu option is the only area that I had any qualms with. The menu is limited on options. Not only was there not a large variety of options, but almost everything was served with pork or fried. I also thought it was interesting for a breakfast restaurant to not have an omlet option on the menu. As much as I value my health, especially while traveling, I was a bit disappointed by this part. Even the shrimp and grits, which is usually my go-to option was littered with pork so I wound up ordering 2 entrees.

They do offer military discount so a big thank you for their support of our service members.

The people are so nice. The environment made up for the menu shortcomings.

Excellent Sunday brunch. We were immediately greeted and had the chance to sit outside on beautiful April afternoon. Unique flavors of mimosas were available. The shrimp and grits and chicken and the egg biscuit where our choices and delicious!

Great little restaurant. Came for breakfast and it didn’t disappoint. We had the southern biscuit and all American platter. The biscuits are fantastic and I loved the fried green tomato on the southern biscuit. As with many places they are short on staff but handled it well and food and service were worth it. Would definitely come back. More

We went with family for brunch, and it was ok, we are saying this, because this place has a lot of room for improvement. The service was excellent! But when it came to the food we wanted to add a few things that you’ll normally get in a breakfast that they didn’t not have. Nice place to sit down, have a coffee and breakfast and enjoy downtown Montgomery.

Incredible! All your southern comfort favorites but in a fresh, low-key way–not heavy or over-the-top either. Order when you walk in and sit wherever (we chose outside on the sidewalk and it was *perfect*)–food is brought to you super fast. The Breakfast Bowl is so good…the pimento cheese getting all melted with the grits and eggs and bacon…and the cahawba burger with the crisp fried green tomatoes…can’t wait to go back and try more. Really nice, friendly and inviting. Grab some local art and gifts while you’re there!

finally

Went here twice for a weekend in Montgomery, and the service was outstanding. The food came out quick and it was very delicious also. I think this place deserves a perfect five-star rating!
