Oyamel Cocina Mexicana Washington DC
Oyamel Cocina Mexicana Washington DC Great place. They had umbrellas in the outside seating space and we were seated right away. The service was very fast and the food/drinks were fantastic.

First off service was great, they were spot on with water refills, politely engaged us in quick banter. As for my food choices I went with the restaurant week choices which included three tapas and a dessert. Ordered a rum drink as well to go with it. For recommendations I highly encourage the tres leches cake (came with caramel ice cream as a bonus) as the flavors were good enough for a passed down family recipe. Only reason for the four stars were two of the three tapas were good, but the roasted sprouts dish was award winning. Would go back again!

Oyamel was good, but not quite as good as I would have hoped for a Bib Gourmand restaurant. I had the chilaquiles, the chicken enchiladas, and the tamal. The chilaquiles were not consistent with the same dish served in Mexican restaurants in California or Texas. It was instead essentially just a plate of nachos. The chicken enchiladas were good. Nice flavors, tender chicken, balanced spices – well done! The tamal was good, but the sauce seemed to be the same as that on the enchiladas. It tasted good, but was disappointed in the lack of diversity in flavor. The bill was quite reasonable for DC, so I still recommend going!!

The service and atmosphere was great. The food was okay, definitely could be a lot better , especially for what they are charging. I wasn’t a big fan of the menu. Usually restaurants offer some sort of other variety of food, like in this example there was no rotisserie chicken with fries for kids, or something of that nature. If they want to really specialize in Mexican food, than they really got up their game on the taste of food. Next time in town, this will be a second option
