We had the most lovely evening at Chez Panisse restaurant California on Tuesday. The food was perfection.
The staff was charming and to watch them move from kitchen to dining was like seeing a dance. I was not expecting to be so enthralled with this place- I’m a huge Alice Waters fan & sometimes when you put someone/something up on a pedestal, it can result in being underwhelmed.
I am more a fan than I was before! Some of the negative reviews I have read seem to come from entitled victims with food allergies, dairy/gluten free- if you don’t want a pre fixed meal- don’t come here and then complain about it.
This place is for foodies who are open to all food & want to experience whatever the chefs prepare.
If you wonder about the price- it’s not just the food, it’s the place, the amount of people involved from the farmers to the dishwasher and everyone in between is getting paid a fair wage.
For a restaurant to thrive for 53 years, it’s on purpose. Alice cares for the community & the people who work there- that costs money. In my opinion, it’s worth every penny. This place is iconic, the food is spectacular.

Great food Excellent ambience Staff was very friendly and professional $175 each for a 4 course meal.
I didn’t expect that I was going to be full after eating it but i was wrong P.S they have baguettes and butter that they serve on the side Pro
tip: Use the baguettes to mop up all the sauce from the different meals 10/10 would recommend Bookings open one month in advance and fill up quickly so make sure you book before going They also have a cafe on the second floor where you can order à la carte if you don’t want to spend the $175
on a full blown 4 course dinner They accommodate all sorts of dietary restrictions. Just let them know beforehand via email and they’ll take care. The wood paneling created a cozy atmosphere. Felt like we were dining at the a friends home.

Tasted very fresh and expertly cooked. Alice Waters essence was there and every bite was well worth it.
My partner had the time of her life there and it’s now her whole personality is this restaurant. We’re definitely coming back!
We went there twice and will come back again definitely. We tried the upstairs cafe with our kids(4and 2)and downstairs fine dining without kids. Both experience are excellent! My kids love watching the chef making wood fired pizza, very beautiful.
Menu is different every day, all food use high quality seasonal local organic ingredients and freshly cooked the same day.
Kitchen is open, you will see how they prepare each course, how respectful they are with the food. I think it’s unique compare to other Michelin star restaurants. I like every bite of the fresh ingredients presented in a way highlighted the original flavor.
I also like the wood fired grill. We can’t ask for more with such reasonable price. We left satisfied without overeating 🙂 If I have to say something negative? When I told the waiter that the ravioli was too salty for me, I wish the waiter or staff could do something for me.
Overall, it’s amazing and we will come back again!
Celebrated Valentine’s Day at Chez Panisse restaurant California and it was an experience to remember! Our perfect evening began with a table set with a beautiful presentation menu and fresh garden flowers.
We sipped on champagne while we perused the rest of the menu. We chose the incredible wine pairing for each course.
From dungeness crab cakes, to wild mushroom ravioli en brodo, to the best duck with truffle sauce. By far my favorite Valentine’s meal ever.
Topped off with a kitchen tour, this will definitely become an annual tradition.
