Utsav Indian Bar and Grill

Utsav restaurant new york is a two-level restaurant situated in the bustling heart of Times Square, uniquely positioned on a skywalk connecting two buildings.

The lower level features a bar, while the expansive upper level boasts floor-to-ceiling glass windows that provide panoramic views of an open-air plaza. Owned by Nandita Khanna, a woman entrepreneur, Utsav has been serving Indian cuisine to New York City for twenty-three years.

Nandita hails from a family with restaurants in Calcutta and Tokyo, notably her father’s establishment, BAR-B-Q, one of the oldest Indian Chinese restaurants in Calcutta, recently celebrating its 60th anniversary. Nandita brings the culinary legacy from her family’s establishments to NYC by introducing an Indo Chinese menu at Utsav.

Trained in the Calcutta style of Chinese cuisine, her chefs specialize in the unique fusion of Indian and Chinese flavors. Utsav also provides various rooms for hosting private events, including a room accommodating 25-30 people and a larger space for 70-80 people. For more details on hosting your next event, kindly reach out to their Catering Manager.

  • Bhetki Maccher Paturi
  • Kosha Mangsho
  • Cholar dal
  • Aloor Dum
  • Luchi

Bengali food is a combination of subtle and fiery flavours. There are certain European influences also like the snack food tradition and foods like chops , fish fry and cutlets that are British in origin but are prepared and served in most Bengali households.

They have focused on presenting classic dishes of Kolkata in their menu. Try the Jhal Muri ,Fish fry, Bhetki Macher Paturi (fish fillet in a spicy mustard paste steamed in a banana leaf), Daab Chingri (large prawns cooked with mustard in a tender green coconut  and Kosha Mangsho (slow-cooked spicy mutton curry) with some Bengali Alur dum , Cholar dal, Luchi.

Don’t forget Mishti doi which is a thick and creamy sweet yogurt dessert that’s one of my favourite too. If you’re in New York City do check out this restaurant.

Their Bengali menu aims to give you a taste of indulgence like the jolly Bengalis. They also offer Indo Chinese and regional Indian cuisine.

This place is absolutely flawless; amazing food, great service, and a stunning atmosphere. Only had a five day trip and been here twice. The guy who serviced us (Ramson) what a great guy and catered for my nephew as well. Guys if you are in NYC you have to come here.

EXCEPTIONAL service absolutely great server (Ramson). The food was delectable, absolutely delicious. Would recommend to anybody who LOVES flavour and savoury goodness. I would kill for the chef to give me private cooking classes. *chefs kiss*

Excellent Bengali food, indo Chinese and North Indian dishes! Special kudos to Ramson for his outstanding service! Thanks for making it special every time I visit from San Francisco! Thanks Team Utsav, must try when in NYC!

On our last night of our NYC family vacation we really wanted Indian food. But we were not sure where to go. We found Utsav on a quick search. It was within walking distance and it said it was spacious.

We gave it a try. The food was excellent. The dining room was full of tourists like us but that didn’t matter. The service and staff was top notch. We had butter chicken and tikka masalla.

Small thing – the naan bread was next level good. Tasty cocktails as well. While we were trying to avoid eating near Times Square this place is a tucked away gem for Indian. I only wish we could have taken our leftovers.

As a born and raised New Yorker who is always on the hunt for exciting food experiences, Utsav exceeded my expectations.

While I went in expecting to try the Indian classics I was pleasantly surprised when the owner, Nandita, convinced me and my guest to let her take the reins and let her order an array of items off the Indochinese menu. Nandita is from the Kolkata region of India, which is known for its Indochinese food – a cuisine I had never had the opportunity to taste…until now!

From start to finish the dishes I tried were packed with flavor, texture, and spice combinations I had never tasted before. Some of my favorite dishes were the Lemon and Coriander Chicken Soup, Konjee Crispy Veggies (battered cauliflower, baby corn, potatoes) in a chili sauce, Szechuan Chicken (boneless!)

Konjee Crispy Lamb (which reminded me or fried pork rinds in the best way possible!!), Salt and Pepper Shrimp, and the Traditional Indochinese Hakka Noodles with veggies and chicken. For dessert I tried the “Mishti Doi” which is traditional sweet yogurt with a custard like consistency.

Everything was amazing! Along with this meal I ordered the draft “Taj Mahal” beer – an Indian lager that was awesome and my guest had the homemade lemonade with ginger.

If you’re looking for something exciting and innovative that is based in centuries of tradition, then Indochinese food at Utsav is definitely for you. Be prepared to leave Utsav feeling stuffed and content. I can’t wait to bring more people here so I can order more next time!
